Temporary Leave from Work

November 1st, 2008, I cut two tendons and a nerve in my right hand, rendering me nearly useless at everything. I had surgery to repair the tendons and the nerve, but recovery for such is slow and frustrating.

I'm typing one-handed now, having gotten fed up by doing nothing. Supposedly I can get my stitches out on Monday (tomorrow), and then maybe, just maybe I'll get to go back to work.

I'm going to have this damned brace on for another month. I'll be counting the days to when it comes off, and there will be much rejoicing, believe you me.

Today I started trying to use my wacom on the mac, but I can't seem to get the configuration fight. Instead, I hopped onto Illustrator and started drawing letters. That's right - type. Unfortunately, I'm getting stuck on a few more complex ones. In this case, it's the letter 'k'. Of all things!

... Ok, nerd rant over.

So, anything exciting happening lately!?

Can you believe I finally posted!? I spent around 4 rolls at the Japanese Festival, and those posted are the best of the bunch. Mind you, they went straight from the scanner to the upload, so there's been no tweaking whatsoever.

*deep breath* I can't wait for feedback. And I really can't wait for a new (digital) camera!!!

Just want to give everyone a heads up as to why, despite my promises, I haven't returned with the frequency that I intended.

First off, work has been absolutely crazy. We've been attempting to work off the backlog for the entire department, and there are only 9 of us including managers, so it's a pretty massive undertaking.

Last week I went to my doctor again for headaches, and I was told, long story short, that it was migraines. They've been persisting for two and a half weeks now, and they don't seem to be letting up. I've begun trying to take Imetrex, but I don't feel any real difference, and the side effects are more than enough to make me stop taking them. (For those concerned, I'll go back in to my doc again in two weeks, so no worries - I'll get this worked out in good time.)

John's gone back to school, so there's an added stress there. Also, I'm considering going back myself, though I haven't decided what for yet. I'm seriously contemplating either Graphic Design (to be finished at Maryville University) or Photography (no idea where; Webster maybe?).

I attended the St Louis Japanese Festival yesterday, so I hope to get some of the photographs taken there uploaded, VMware willing. ;) My printer/fax/scanner doesn't play nice with Ubuntu, so I need to get some sort of compromise established.

I'll try to check by as often as I can, but I suspect that may be no more than on the weekends. Then again, who knows!!!

Plenty of Updates

I realize that a year and a half ago I said I'd be back. Since then I've graduated with a Bachelors of Science, moved from home, gotten an incredible job at Boeing, and started to settle in to what looks to be a great future with a wonderful person.

So what's left? Everything. Every day is something new, full of learning and discovery and struggles. I have a list of things I want to do, all of which will sit on the back burner until they become proper priorities - which, given how things are going, may take a while.

So everyone, please - what have you been up to!? I've missed this place tons. Fill me in, get me up to date!
